Volunteer Gardener and Support Worker

Roots and Shoots is home to our gardening project, which offers training and practical experience to develop confidence, creativity and life skills for those with learning disabilities. This also gives the individuals we work with the chance to make friends and have fun with each other.
In this role, you would be assisting and supporting people with learning disabilities and assisting with gardening duties. This could include:
• Helping to maintain the grounds and allotments on our 5.5 acre horticultural project
• Assisting adults with learning disabilities to grow vegetables from seed and to plant out into allotments
• Supporting and guiding adults who have learning disabilities helping them to gain work related skills
• General garden maintenance, including weeding & mowing
• Conservation work within woodland area i.e. hedging
• Maintaining the sensory garden
• Repair, renewal and maintenance of allotment areas, including growing frames
• Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation i.e. Health & Safety and Equal Opportunities
SKILLS
You do not need to be an expert gardener, just some general gardening knowledge and an interest in gardening.
