Come and help out with our under 5s and families at our weekly song and rhyme sessions. Support them to enjoy the sessions and talk to them about sharing books, whilst meeting new people.

To assist in the delivery of the Bookstart scheme in Southend by assisting a Storyrhyme volunteer leader with their weekly song and rhyme sessions for families with under 5’s.
Taking responsibility for welcoming and signing in Storyrhyme attendees and maintaining confidentiality of this information.
Welcoming and settling late arrivals to the session with minimal disruption.
Assisting with the general running of the session e.g., distributing instruments, stickers etc.
Talking to families about the benefits of such language-based activities and of early book-sharing and promoting library services for under 5’s.
Providing feedback to permanent staff serving the scheme.
A great opportunity to meet new people and make a difference to local families.
Good communication skills, especially listening and talking.
Friendly personality with a positive interest in working with children and parents/carers.
Reliable, particularly in terms of time-keeping.
All volunteers will undergo an initial training session. Mandatory online training is required for all Southend City Council volunteers.
