Animal Care Volunteer (Part Time)

Are you an animal lover and like to get outdoors whatever the weather? Come along and learn how to have fun working with animals whether it be, feeding, cleaning, maintenance or training.

About this opportunity from The Salvation Army Hadleigh Farm Estate

Join the Rare Breeds Centre Team!

Do you love animals, enjoy being outdoors, and want to make a real difference? We’re

looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us care for our wonderful range of

animals—from fluffy rabbits, feathered friends and friendly sheep to curious goats!

As an Animal Care Volunteer, you’ll be hands-on with daily care routines, helping to ensure

our animals are happy, healthy, and well-loved. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain

experience in animal husbandry, learn new skills, and be part of a friendly, passionate team.

 What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Keeping animal pens and enclosures clean and comfortable
  • Creating fun and stimulating enrichment activities
  • Helping with basic maintenance and foraging fresh greens for feed
  • Socialising and training animals for handling and public shows
  • Providing a warm welcome and great experience for our visitors

This is a physical, outdoor role—expect fresh air, muddy boots, and plenty of rewarding moments!

What You Bring:

  • Confidence to work independently and take initiative
  • Friendly communication and a patient, calm approach
  • Good time management and problem-solving skills
  • A team spirit and willingness to muck in (literally!)
  • A shared commitment to The Salvation Army’s values of respect, empathy, and dignity
