PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

We are looking for volunteers who can help with the collection of food on one of the shifts below, on a regular basis. The food collected would then be taken to one of our gardens right after collection. This task could take between 90 minutes and two hours maximum.

At our Growing Together branches, we cook a hot meal for our members each day we are open. The food collected from the supermarkets will contribute to these dishes.

For some of our members ( service users) this might be the only hot meal they have that week.

Shifts and locations:

Tesco Hamlet Ct Road evenings Monday, Tuesday, Thursday

Tesco London Rd Westcliff mornings Monday

Tesco Royals High Street mornings Thursday

Tesco Broadway Thorpe Bay Evenings Sunday – Thursday

Tesco Broadway Leigh on Sea mornings Monday and Thursday

Tesco London Rd Leigh on Sea SS9 2ST mornings Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Tesco London Rd Leigh on Sea SS9 3JY evenings Sunday – Thursday

Reports to:  Westcliff – Growing Together staff

 

Things to consider:

Volunteers will need to use their own car for collections. The car needs to be registered with insurance that it’s being used for volunteering.

Mileage can be reimbursed.

We are ideally looking for people who live locally.

Collection times are often late evenings or mornings so the role will require somebody who can commit to these time slots.

 

The Volunteer will be required to:

·       Undergo the recruitment process and checks

·       Participate in a Volunteer Induction

·       Report issues, concerns and successes to project staff.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE:

  • Collect food from designated Supermarket on a weekly basis and deliver to the community fridge based at a Growing Together Garden in and around Southend.
  • Communicate with staff if a shift will be missed.
  • Liaise with the supermarkets on the day of pick up, if need be. Communication with the supermarkets will need to be covered by volunteers once the collection shift is arranged.
  • Ensure relevant staff are informed of food deliveries by email/phone
  • Inform staff of any waste (for compost)
  • Taking part in volunteer training
  • Ensure Health and Safety regulations are adhered to in line with Trust Links Health and Safety policy
  • Ensure Safeguarding requirements are met in line with Trust Links Safeguarding policy and escalate concerns about the wellbeing of service users to appropriate staff members
  • Maintain confidentiality
