Purpose of the Role
We are looking for supportive and understanding volunteers to help our adult residents improve their confidence and ability in basic maths and/or English. Whether it’s reading letters, helping with everyday maths, or supporting someone working toward a qualification, this role is about making learning accessible, respectful, and empowering.

Main Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one or small group support in reading, writing, spelling, or basic numeracy

Adapt sessions to meet individual learning needs and goals

Encourage learning at a comfortable pace, building confidence and independence

Use everyday examples to make lessons practical and relevant

Work alongside staff to ensure sessions are consistent and meaningful

Skills & Experience
Good level of literacy and/or numeracy

Patient, friendly, and encouraging approach

Ability to communicate clearly and supportively

Experience supporting adults or mentoring (desirable but not essential)
