We are looking for retired/ex teachers to volunteer at our Safe Space for Homework Club commencing in January.

• Avenue Baptist Church
• Trinity Family Centre
• South Essex College
• The Ironworks
• SAVS
We plan to offer ‘Safe Spaces For Homework’ for young people to access after school every night of the school week . We will be initially piloting with referred students from local senior schools, looking to extend venues and to be available to the wider public in the coming year. The pilot scheme will be commencing in January within the Milton ward, at 3.30-5.30pm.
• Avenue Baptist Church, Milton Road- Tuesday
• The Ironworks, Southend High Street- Wednesday
• Trinity Church, Argyll Road- Thursday
Project Objectives
– Provide a basic meal/ snack and drinks to young people
– Provide a safe space for students to study and socialise in
– Provide support and mentoring from South Essex College student ambassadors
– Provide a safe space with an adult to oversee the homework spaces and offer support
– Provide ‘way finding’ services in Southend for those in need
– Provide access to tuition and/ or help with studies
– Provide a space space to access support to benefit students future development and progress in life
– Provide a warm space to study
