Telephone Befriender – Support the isolated in our community

Are you good at making friends and love chatting on the phone? Brighten our clients day and help them to feel less isolated and lonely with a friendly telephone call, just once a week.

About this opportunity from UCAN Volunteer Centre

So many people are lonely and isolated. So many people have no one to turn to. No one should feel forgotten or socially neglected here in Uttlesford. Have you got just 1 hour free every week? Then you can help us support our community from your own home by having a regular conversation with a local resident.

You will be making a regular (weekly) telephone call to a nominated person, for general conversation and friendship. This will help the resident to feel connected to the outside world, and develop a genuine friendship with a committed person who is interested in them and their life. Calls usually take 15 to 20 minutes per week but sometimes more time is needed.

Supervision is provided as needed, and volunteers will be asked to log calls using a simple online system.
