Behaviour Support Specialist Volunteer
We are looking for volunteers to provide parents with the support to help with understanding their children’s behaviour, leading to improved family relationships.
About this opportunity from Home-Start Essex
As a Behaviour Support Specialist Volunteer, you will provide parents with the support to help with understanding their children’s behaviour leading to improved family relationships. Your training will enhance your knowledge & skills, so you can provide support in emotional regulation, sensory processing and behaviour as communication.
You can support families through either:
• Weekly home-visiting support: in-person support within the family home
• Weekly telephone befriending: Providing regular check-ins and encouragement by phone/video.
• Behaviour support group: Assisting our Behaviour Support Team in delivering weekly online group sessions, providing guidance and support to parents/carers to help them understand their children’s behaviour and improve family relationships. Groups are delivered online weekly for 1.5 hours for a 6-week duration.
All Behaviour Support Specialist Volunteers complete a preparation course before starting their role. This includes:
• 8 e-learning modules to complete at home, ideally before online sessions
• Online face-to-face sessions to build on the e-learning (format and number of sessions may vary)
In addition to attending the general preparation course, you will also be required to complete the online Behaviour Support training course. This training has been developed by our Behaviour Support Specialist, who heads our Behaviour Support programme. The training covers the importance of behaviour and connection, emotional regulation, sensory processing, day to day factors impacting behaviour, autism and the importance of self-care.
You will be supported every step of the way by our Behaviour Support Team to ensure families receive the right guidance and support. You will also have the chance to attend optional training sessions throughout the year, as well as regular ongoing training. Our training is designed to equip you with the confidence and knowledge to make a real difference.
