Flexible Volunteer Administrator (Remote)

We are looking for a volunteer with admin skills to help with our charity administration. Gain experience and help with the smooth running of our counselling services. Remote role, flexible hours

About this opportunity from Abacus Counselling & Support

As a Flexible Volunteer Administrator (Remote), you’ll play a key behind-the-scenes role in supporting the smooth running of Abacus Counselling and Support. Tasks may include light admin such as monitoring a shared inbox, logging volunteer enquiries, keeping spreadsheets up to date, organising documents, and helping prepare information for monthly meetings and events. All tasks are clearly defined, supported with templates, and can be completed remotely at flexible times to suit you.

Volunteering with Abacus offers the chance to gain valuable experience in charity administration, develop organisational and communication skills, and contribute meaningfully to a mental health support service in your local community. You’ll be supported by a small but friendly team, given clear guidance, and your time and contribution will be genuinely valued. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys flexible working, working independently, and making a quiet but important difference.

We need this role to help ensure our small charity continues to run efficiently and sustainably. By supporting with essential administrative tasks, you’ll be helping our counselling service focus on what matters most — supporting people who need emotional and mental health support. Your contribution, even just 1–2 hours a week, will have a real and lasting impact.

– Good organisational skills and attention to detail
– IT skills, including confidence using email, spreadsheets and google drive
– Clear written communication skills
– Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
– A reliable and flexible approach

Volunteers must be able to respect confidentiality, handle information sensitively, and follow data protection requirements at all times. While this role does not involve direct contact with service users, an understanding of the importance of safeguarding within a counselling and mental health setting is essential.

No formal qualifications are required. Training, guidance, and templates will be provided, including an introduction to Abacus’ confidentiality, safeguarding, and data protection procedures. A willingness to follow these policies and raise any concerns appropriately is essential.
