Volunteer Speaker
We are looking for an inspiring public speaker who has the confidence to raise awareness and support for our work with local congregations. You don't need to be religious but respectful of our beliefs
About this opportunity from CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development)
As a volunteer speaker, you will use your voice to inspire people with stories from those we work with overseas.
You will make a fantastic contribution to our work by delivering pre-scripted 4-minute talks at Mass in local Catholic parish churches across Essex and east London. These talks are mainly given at weekends spanning the two CAFOD Fast days a year, during early Lent and at Harvest (October) which are our fundraising platforms in Catholic parishes during the year. You may also be asked to deliver a talk to parish groups. As a speaker you will play a highly valued role in raising awareness and support for CAFOD’s work. You will meet amazing communities and motivate them to participate.
At minimum, you could speak on just four weekends a year (around the Fast Days at the beginning of October and beginning of Lent). There are more opportunities throughout the year if you wish to give more time. Prior to each Fast Day you will be invited to take part in a briefing day to ensure you are up to date with the work of CAFOD’s partners.
You do not need to be religious or a person of faith, but respectful of the Catholic faith community you will be addressing, and be interested in CAFOD’s work and keen to inspire others
We’ll provide training and scripts to help you deliver great talks and introduce you to parishes who are looking for speakers.
You will have excellent verbal communication skills, be confident, articulate and inspiring in front of a Mass congregation. You will be approachable and comfortable talking to potential volunteers and anyone with questions after your talk.
