About this opportunity from Healthwatch Southend
We’re passionate about making a difference to health and care services for the people of Southend. Are you?
We are recruiting volunteers to join Healthwatch Southend’s Advisory Group to make sure the voice of local people is heard. Health and care services are changing rapidly at the moment, so it’s really important to find out what local residents think and get this built in to the plans of the NHS and Council.
We are the independent voice of the people of Southend who use health and care services. We work to make sure that your views and experiences – good and not so good – help the NHS and Social Services improve the care you, your families and friends receive.
Our Advisory Group helps identify the topics which we should examine in more detail – how well are carers being looked after? Why don’t men talk about their mental health? You can make sure we ask the right questions of the NHS and the Council, and help make recommendations to improve services. You will also act as an ambassador for our service, using your networks to promote what we do at local community events or groups.
In return, we’ll offer you training to get your feet under the table. You’ll make a contribution to the wellbeing of our community. You’ll make new contacts in the City. You might want to get involved in working with local people to capture their experiences. We have no fixed hours or expectations and will work with you to make sure we respect your other commitments.
We need you to bring your knowledge, interests and contacts in the community to help make a difference. The more local input we have, the more likely we are to meet the needs of our residents. Southend is a diverse and vibrant community, so we are really keen to recruit more volunteers from those groups whose voices aren’t always heard.
Skills – You don’t need any skills or qualifications – just bring your interest in health and social care, and your commitment to Southend!
