About this opportunity from HARP
HARP is developing a free, publicly accessible online directory that will enable anyone in Essex to enter their postcode and quickly find local support services, including food banks, housing advice, mental health support, emergency aid and more.
As a Volunteer Researcher, you will play a vital role in building and maintaining this resource by researching, verifying and recording service information from across Essex. Your work will help ensure that people facing difficult circumstances can easily access the support they need.
This role also contributes to HARP’s wider digital strategy by helping create a comprehensive directory of local services and community partners.
Key Responsibilities
Research and Information Gathering
Research support services across Essex, including:
Food banks
Homelessness services
Housing advice providers
Mental health support services
Clothing and essential item provision
Emergency assistance and welfare support
Use a variety of sources, including:
Charity websites
Local authority websites
Online directories
Google Maps
Community resource databases
Data Collection and Verification
Record service information using a structured spreadsheet template provided by HARP.
Gather and maintain accurate information including:
Organisation name
Service type
Area covered
Address
Contact details
Website links
Opening times
Referral requirements
Verify information is current and accurate through website checks and, where required, direct contact with organisations.
Outreach and Engagement
Contact local organisations to introduce the directory using approved templates.
Identify organisations that may be willing to promote or link to the directory.
Record outreach activity and responses for the Digital Team.

SKILLS
No formal qualifications are required. We are looking for someone who is:
Organised and methodical, with good attention to detail.
Comfortable carrying out online research.
Confident using Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel or similar systems.
Able to communicate professionally by email and telephone.
Reliable and able to work independently.
Passionate about supporting people experiencing homelessness and hardship.
Support and Training
You will receive:

Regular check-ins throughout the project.
